NDC Candidate Baba Jamal Secures Victory in Ayawaso East By-Election

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Baba Jamal, has emerged victorious in the recent Ayawaso East by-election.

This victory was officially declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday evening, sparking enthusiastic celebrations among Baba Jamal’s supporters throughout the constituency.

The by-election was held on March 3 to fill the vacancy left by the late MP Naser Toure Mahama, who passed away in January. Voters from various polling stations participated in the election.

In total, five candidates contested the election, including Baba Ali Yussif from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ibrahim Iddrisu representing the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), and two independent candidates, Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Sanda and David Kanor.

Pre-election polls had indicated a strong likelihood of victory for Baba Jamal, and these predictions were confirmed in the final results. However, the day began with a lower-than-anticipated turnout as many voters appeared later, possibly due to Ramadan fasting.

Security arrangements were a critical aspect of the election day. The Ghana Police Service had previously promised robust measures to ensure peace throughout the voting process. Officers were deployed at polling locations and key areas within the constituency.

Polling officials reported a calm and orderly atmosphere at the voting centers, reinforcing the adequacy of the security presence to address any unforeseen issues during the counting and collation of results.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) also made visits to various neighborhoods as voting came to a close.
