The Minority in Parliament is demanding the immediate resignation or dismissal of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister, Samuel Nartey George, over his handling of the DStv pricing issue.
They argue that the Minister failed to deliver on his promise of a 30% reduction in subscription fees, a move that had raised public expectations of financial relief for households. Instead of the promised cuts, they say, subscribers were only offered promotional packages which do not reflect the direct price reduction initially assured.
The Minority has also raised concerns about the daily fines imposed on MultiChoice for failing to submit pricing data, questioning the management and transparency of these penalties. In their view, this further highlights what they describe as a lack of accountability in the Minister’s approach.
According to the opposition, the Minister’s handling of the matter has been ineffective and disappointing at a time when many Ghanaians are struggling with the high cost of living. They maintain that his inability to secure the reductions has embarrassed government efforts to regulate pay-TV services and undermined public confidence.
