Liverpool smash the British transfer record by paying £116.5 million for Florian Wirtz, reuniting him with former Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong, who signed for £29.5 million. Details about record transfer…

Liverpool has shattered the British transfer record by agreeing to pay £116.5 million for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, following the recent acquisition of his teammate, Jeremie Frimpong.

The Reds have agreed to pay £100 million upfront for the German midfielder, with an additional £16.5 million in add-ons that could boost the deal’s value even more. The overall deal significantly surpassed the previous British record of £115 million, which Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo in 2023.

Wirtz simply wants to join Liverpool, so negotiating his personal terms won’t be difficult. The 22-year-old will have his physical next week when he returns from his vacation, and the transfer will be finalized, according to SkySports.

Liverpool, as well as several other elite European clubs, have long been interested in the attacking midfielder. Manchester City was also interested, but they pulled out when the transaction became too pricey. Wirtz favored relocating to Merseyside over joining Bayern Munich, which aided Liverpool in completing the signing.

Wirtz was spectacular for Leverkusen last season, scoring 10 goals and setting up 12 more in 25 league appearances. His club finished second behind Bayern Munich, barely a year after winning
both the Bundesliga and German Cup.

This move follows Liverpool’s recruitment of Wirtz’s former Leverkusen teammate, Jeremie Frimpong. The Netherlands international, who has Ghanaian ancestors, signed for Liverpool with £29.5 million, adding pace and attacking threat to Arne Slot’s team on the flanks.

Liverpool continue to hunt additional stars.
Liverpool isn’t finished yet either. They are also interested in Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez and have contacted the south coast club about a prospective trade.

No bid has been made yet, but the Premier League champions are considering what it would take to acquire him.
