Following an electrifying performance against Aston Villa, Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has boldly declared Joao Pedro among the elite in world football. The Brazilian forward, fresh off a hat-trick in the Blues’ 4-1 victory, has transformed into a player that Rosenior believes can rival the likes of Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, and Kylian Mbappe.
Joao Pedro’s recent hat-trick has brought his season tally to 17 goals in all competitions, an impressive 14 of which have been scored in the Premier League. Notably, every one of these league goals h.as been netted from open play, establishing him as Chelsea’s much-needed focal point in attack—a slot that has been vacant since Diego Costa’s departure.
This goal-scoring prowess, coupled with a remarkable 24.6% shot-conversion rate, has spurred comparisons with Europe’s top strikers. Currently, he even outshines Haaland and Mbappe in terms of efficiency.
In a recent press conference, Rosenior did not hesitate to lift Joao Pedro to the same pedestal as renowned strikers. He stated, “Joao is in that category now. He’s consistently shown he is a world-class striker.” Although he respected Haaland’s talent, Rosenior insisted he wouldn’t trade Pedro for anyone, emphasizing the young player’s potential and current form.
Rosenior went on to say, “Joao has room to improve, and I’ve already identified areas where he can get better. But right now, he’s operating at a world-class level.”
While Pedro’s numbers are impressive, they are still a work in progress. Kane’s sustained performance overshadows Pedro in total non-penalty goals over the past season—Kane netted 92 compared to Pedro’s 33. However, with a tally of nine assists this term, Pedro is proving to be a dual threat in attack, demonstrating both his scoring and playmaking abilities.
