Ghanaian music producer and sound engineer, GuiltyBeatz, has opened up about the unexpected opportunity that led to his collaboration with global superstar Beyoncé.

In an interview on Sincerely Accra shared on X on Monday, June 23, 2025, GuiltyBeatz recounted how he and about 20 other producers were invited to showcase their beats in what turned out to be a life-changing session.

GuiltyBeatz revealed that he had just returned to Ghana from a trip and was jet-lagged when he was called in for the session. “I had just landed, and they took me straight to the conference room. They were passing around the Aux cables, asking each producer to play something. The pressure was real,” he recalled.

When it was his turn, GuiltyBeatz played the instrumental for “Thomas Pompoyɛyaw,” a song he had previously produced for rapper Pappy Kojo. Surprisingly, Beyoncé’s team loved it. “They really felt the beat’s energy and bounce—it was very Ghanaian and highlife-inspired,” he shared.

Soon after, he was officially selected to work with Beyoncé. “The next day, she came to my studio with her whole team. She was humble, focused, and excited to explore African rhythms,” GuiltyBeatz added.

Their collaboration later contributed to Beyoncé’s celebrated 2019 album The Lion King: The Gift, which showcased African artists and sounds to a global audience.
