The Weija Divisional Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old mason, Isaac Adonteng, for allegedly assaulting his 13-year-old daughter, Celestine Adonteng, leading to her death at Kokrobite in the Ga South Municipality.
A police statement issued on Thursday, November 20, 2025, said preliminary investigations show the suspect subjected the girl to severe beatings with a cane, a metal pipe and other objects after accusing her of taking food meant for her younger sibling.
Despite the child suffering serious injuries, the father reportedly failed to seek medical attention and kept her locked in a room. Police officers, acting on a complaint, proceeded to the house where they found the victim unconscious.
She was rushed to the Police Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The body has since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police retrieved a cutlass and a metal pipe, believed to have been used in the assault, from the scene. The suspect is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
The Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned parents and guardians against using excessive force in disciplining children, stressing that such abuse is unlawful and often leads to tragic outcomes. The public is encouraged to promptly report all cases of child abuse and domestic violence for swift intervention.
