Accenture, a leading consulting and IT services firm, has announced its agreement to acquire Ookla’s popular platforms, Downdetector and Speedtest, from Ziff Davis for a staggering $1.2 billion. This acquisition marks a significant move in enhancing Accenture’s capabilities within data-driven services.
In a press release, Accenture’s CEO Julie Sweet highlighted that the integration of Ookla’s products will empower the company to harness data, ultimately assisting clients in government and business sectors to scale artificial intelligence technology safely and effectively.
Ziff Davis, the parent company of Ookla and well-known publications like CNET and IGN, initially acquired Ookla in 2014. In addition to Speedtest and Downdetector, Ookla’s portfolio includes Ekahau, which provides software for network design, and RootMetrics, a service dedicated to measuring mobile network performance.
Following the acquisition, which is pending regulatory approval, Accenture intends to utilize Ookla’s extensive data to support cloud service providers and AI hyperscalers. Despite the transition, Accenture assures that Ookla will continue to operate its business as usual, maintaining the integrity and operational systems currently in place.
Stephen Bye, CEO of Ookla, expressed optimism about the acquisition, stating that joining Accenture will enable the company to expand its network data business globally and enhance the connected experiences offered to users.
This acquisition signifies a strategic move for Accenture as it aims to broaden its influence in the tech industry, particularly as reliance on data analytics and AI technologies continues to grow.
