Cristiano Ronaldo’s journey towards the 2026 World Cup has encountered a major setback as he risks missing Portugal’s last international camp before the tournament. Following his recent exit from a domestic match, the Al-Nassr forward is in a race against time to recover from a hamstring injury and prove his fitness to head coach Roberto Martinez.

Ronaldo’s injury was incurred during Al-Nassr’s recent match against Al-Fayha, where he exited the field in the 81st minute. The club has since confirmed, “Cristiano Ronaldo has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury and has commenced a rehabilitation program, which will be evaluated daily.” This situation is particularly troubling as the season reaches its pivotal moments for both club and country.

The timing of his injury is critical as Martinez prepares to finalize his squad ahead of upcoming friendlies against Mexico on March 28 and the United States on March 31. These matches are vital for honing the team’s strategy as they look towards the summer World Cup.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Ronaldo’s recovery could keep him sidelined for up to four weeks, noting, “More tests are forthcoming, but he aims to return as soon as possible.” If Ronaldo’s recovery does extend, it will significantly impact Portugal’s attacking options in these essential warm-up matches.

Ronaldo’s absence would be a significant blow to Al-Nassr, where he has been a prolific scorer with 21 goals this season. The club’s medical staff is diligently working to ensure a successful recovery for the veteran. Given the intricacies of muscle injuries, especially at this stage of his career, careful management is crucial to safeguard his long-term fitness.

Concurrent with the injury news, speculation arose about Ronaldo’s potential exit from Saudi Arabia amid regional instability. However, these claims have been dismissed by those close to the player. Al-Nassr has actively shared images of the star working in the training complex, reassuring fans of his commitment.

The Portuguese Football Federation will be closely monitoring Ronaldo’s condition as they prepare to finalize their squad. Should Ronaldo be unable to participate, Martinez may need to test alternative tactics against North American competition. Fans globally remain hopeful that the iconic goalscorer will overcome this challenge and lead Portugal in what could be one last World Cup run.
