The Kumasi High Court has dismissed an injunction application filed by Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, who sought to stop the funeral arrangements of the late Ghanaian highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.
Akosua Serwaa had petitioned the court to halt preparations for the funeral, claiming she was the legally recognized wife of the musician under German law. She argued that the family had excluded her from decisions regarding the body and burial rites of the music icon.
The court, however, rejected her application, ruling that the funeral could proceed as planned under the guidance of the family head (Abusuapanyin). This decision clears the path for the Lumba family to go ahead with their announced arrangements.
According to reports, the family plans to hold the funeral on December 6, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Reacting to the ruling, the family’s Abusuapanyin expressed relief, describing the court’s decision as a vindication of traditional family authority in the handling of such matters.
Meanwhile, Akosua Serwaa’s lawyer, William Kusi, has clarified that the dismissal of the injunction does not end the main case, which still seeks to establish her as the rightful spouse of the late musician. That case is expected to be heard on November 25, 2025.
The ruling ends weeks of uncertainty over whether the family could proceed with funeral plans amid the ongoing legal dispute.
