The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a global alert over three toxic cough syrups manufactured in India, which have been linked to the deaths of several children in Madhya Pradesh. Laboratory tests confirmed that the syrups, Coldrif, Respifresh TR, and ReLife, contained dangerously high levels of diethylene glycol (DEG), a toxic chemical often used as an industrial solvent. Ingestion of DEG can cause acute kidney injury and death, particularly in children. Two individuals have been arrested for allegedly attempting to manipulate school placements for multiple students and engaging in bribery within Ghana’s school placement system. The final 20 living hostages held by Hamas in Gaza have returned to Israel after more than two years in captivity, the Israeli military has confirmed. At least 15 people have died, and six others have been hospitalized after a canoe carrying mourners capsized on the Oti River near Kete Krachi in the Oti Region. The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources says the Office of the Attorney-General is prosecuting nearly 1,500 cases of illegal mining across the country, with the cases currently at various stages of trial.
