Arise News has shed new light on the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding the death of its 29-year-old anchor, Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu, who passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, in Abuja.
According to revelations by the network, Sommie leapt from her Katampe residence after hearing that about 14 armed robbers had invaded the building. Though she survived the fall, she sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Maitama District Hospital.
Arise News reported that she was rejected at the hospital, with staff allegedly insisting on identification before providing urgent medical treatment. This delay, the station suggests, may have contributed to her death.
The new details have sparked widespread anger and grief, with many condemning both the insecurity that forced her desperate action and the alleged negligence by health officials.
Somtochukwu, remembered for her sharp reporting, elegance, and vibrant on-air presence, was also a trained lawyer and former beauty queen. Tributes continue to pour in for the rising star whose life and career were cut tragically short.
