The National Service Authority (NSA), in collaboration with Absa Bank Ghana and the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA), has introduced a zero-interest overdraft facility for active National Service Personnel (NSPs) to cushion the impact of delayed allowance payments.
The initiative allows eligible personnel to access up to 85% of their monthly allowance in advance, helping them manage essential expenses such as rent and transportation without disruption.
The overdraft carries no interest during the delay period, requires no collateral, and is automatically repaid once the outstanding allowance is released by the NSA.
To qualify, personnel must hold an Absa Ignition Account a youth-oriented banking product that offers zero maintenance fees, a complimentary international debit card, and travel insurance coverage of up to GH¢100,000. Interested applicants can sign up via the NSA’s student online submission portal.
Director-General of the NSA, Ruth Dela Seddoh, said the programme directly addresses concerns raised by service personnel across the country, noting that payment delays have often created financial strain for young graduates.
Similarly, Managing Director of Absa Bank Ghana, Edward Nartey Botchway, emphasised that the partnership is designed to ease the burden caused by such delays and ensure personnel can meet their basic needs without hardship.
The NSA reiterated its appreciation to service personnel for their role in national development and affirmed its commitment to improving the efficiency and timeliness of allowance disbursements through continued collaboration with stakeholders.
