Valve has announced that the release dates for its highly anticipated products, including the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller, have been pushed back. Initially slated to launch in early 2026, Valve now states it “hopes to ship in 2026.” This delay is attributed to ongoing shortages of memory and storage chips, a situation that has worsened recently.
Although Valve had previously affirmed that there were no changes to its schedule, now it appears that the timeline could extend even further. The company had previously aimed for a release in the first half of the year, but the prospects for the Steam Machine’s debut remain uncertain.
In an official statement, Valve acknowledged the challenges posed by chip shortages: “We hope to ship in 2026, but as we shared recently, memory and storage shortages have created challenges for us. We’ll share updates publicly when we finalize our plans!”
The semiconductor market has seen escalating prices, especially for memory, exacerbated by increased demand from artificial intelligence companies. This spike in costs is impacting hardware manufacturers across the board. Even major players like Apple are grappling with rising memory prices.
Additionally, Valve confirmed that the ongoing RAM crisis will also affect stock levels for the Steam Deck OLED, further complicating its product lineup ahead of planned launches. Valve has yet to provide a precise timeline for when users can expect these new hardware releases, leaving many fans eager for more clarity.
