President John Dramani Mahama has officially signed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025, into law, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s drive toward sustained economic growth and job creation.
The newly enacted law establishes the 24-Hour Economy Authority, a dedicated body tasked with coordinating and regulating the implementation of round-the-clock economic activities across key sectors of the economy. The initiative is designed to boost productivity, expand employment opportunities, and maximize the use of national infrastructure by encouraging businesses and public institutions to operate beyond traditional working hours.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, President Mahama described the legislation as a transformative step toward modernizing Ghana’s economy. He emphasized that a structured 24-hour economy would enhance competitiveness, attract investment, and stimulate industrial growth, particularly in manufacturing, agro-processing, transportation, health, and hospitality.
The President noted that the Authority will work closely with the private sector, labor unions, and relevant state agencies to ensure smooth implementation while safeguarding workers’ rights and welfare. He stressed that safety, security, and fair labor practices will remain central to the policy’s rollout.
Economic analysts have described the move as bold and forward-looking, pointing to its potential to reduce unemployment and increase national output. By extending productive hours and optimizing existing facilities, the policy aims to create more shifts, generate new income streams, and strengthen Ghana’s economic resilience.
The signing of the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025, signals the government’s commitment to innovation-driven growth and inclusive development, setting the stage for what officials describe as a new chapter in Ghana’s economic transformation.
