The Palace of the Paramount Chief of the Kwahu Traditional Council at Abene came under attack at dawn on Monday, November 17, 2025, when armed men reportedly dressed in police uniforms stormed the premises, claiming to be operatives from National Security.
Residents say they heard gunshots inside the palace around 4 a.m., followed by the alleged abduction of the Kwahuhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua, who was present at the time.
The attackers also took away the official Toyota Land Cruiser of the Kwahuhene. Tracking data shows the vehicle is currently headed toward Accra.
The motive for the raid and the alleged abduction remains unknown. Both the Nkawkaw and Kwahu Divisional Police Commands have since stated that they had no prior knowledge of any sanctioned operation by personnel identifying themselves as national security agents.
Reports heightened fear among residents, as the incident comes amid ongoing tensions within the Kwahu Chieftaincy disputes.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement. Investigations are said to be underway, with more details expected as the situation unfolds.
