Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled Al-Saud, known across the Arab world as the “Sleeping Prince,” has died at age 36, bringing an emotional close to a two-decade-long medical ordeal that began with a car accident in London.

In 2005, at just 15 years old, the young prince suffered a traumatic brain injury that left him in a coma. Despite doctors’ early predictions, he remained in a vegetative state for 21 years, cared for around the clock by his devoted family. His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, consistently rejected recommendations to end life support, believing in the possibility of recovery.

Over the years, short videos occasionally circulated online showing the prince making slight movements, including eye blinks and hand twitches. These rare moments of responsiveness sparked public interest and gave hope to millions following his condition.

However, on Sunday, the royal family confirmed his death. “Our beloved Waleed has returned to his Creator after a long and courageous fight,” they stated.

Following the announcement, tributes poured in from across the Middle East. Many praised the family’s perseverance and faith, while others reflected on the prince’s quiet yet powerful impact on public conversations around hope, healing, and divine will.

Funeral prayers took place at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, with members of the royal family and citizens attending in large numbers.

Prince Al-Waleed’s life, though marked by silence, became a symbol of enduring love, patience, and the strength of unwavering belief.
