Tech billionaire Elon Musk has launched a new political movement, the America Party, aiming to shake up the traditional two-party system in the United States. He announced the decision on his social media platform, X, declaring, “You want a new political party and you shall have it!”
The move comes after a major fallout with former President Donald Trump over a massive federal spending bill, which Musk called “fiscally insane.” He accused both Democrats and Republicans of leading the country toward financial collapse through waste and corruption.
Instead of trying to replace the major parties, Musk says his party will focus on flipping a small number of critical congressional seats 2 to 3 in the Senate and 8 to 10 in the House to give moderate voices real influence.
The America Party’s early platform includes reducing national debt, supporting nuclear energy and space exploration, expanding STEM education, promoting merit-based immigration, and protecting free speech through a proposed “Digital Bill of Rights.” It also plans to test universal basic income through local pilot programs.
Trump quickly hit back, calling the new party “ridiculous” and warning that Musk could help Democrats win by splitting conservative votes. Musk responded by accusing Trump of abandoning fiscal responsibility.
Launching a new party won’t be easy, especially with strict state ballot laws. Still, with Musk’s financial power and massive online following, the America Party could impact close races in 2026 and beyond.
Though Musk can’t run for president, his political ambitions are clearly just getting started.
