A huge fire broke out late Tuesday night, June 18, 2025, at the Korle Bu Medical School in Accra, causing serious damage to its medical laboratory buildings. The fire has brought important administrative and records-related work to a complete stop.
According to reports, the blaze started around midnight and quickly spread through parts of the lab complex. Firefighters rushed to the scene and battled the flames for hours before finally bringing it under control. Thankfully, no injuries or deaths have been reported.
However, the damage is significant. The affected buildings housed important offices, documents, and equipment used for research, teaching, and administrative tasks. Many of the school’s medical records and archived files may have been destroyed, raising concerns about how long it will take to get things running normally again.
School officials say they are still assessing the full extent of the damage. In the meantime, several academic and administrative activities have been temporarily suspended.
Students and staff were shocked by the incident. “It’s heartbreaking,” one student said. “This place is like a second home for many of us, and to see it go up in flames is painful.”
Authorities are investigating what caused the fire, and the school has promised to work with government agencies to rebuild and restore lost records.
The Korle Bu Medical School is one of Ghana’s top medical training centers, and many are hoping swift action will help it recover and continue its vital role in healthcare and education.
