Nana Agradaa has responded strongly to claims that her legal team failed to appear in court for a hearing in the ongoing defamation case filed by gospel singer Empress Gifty.
The hearing, which was supposed to take place on June 11, 2025 at the Tema High Court, was expected to address a motion for an interlocutory injunction. This motion aimed to stop Agradaa from making any further damaging comments about Empress Gifty while the case is ongoing.
In a viral video, Empress Gifty’s lawyer alleged that Agradaa’s legal team was absent. “We were ready for the court to hear the motion to restrain the defendant from making further statements. Sadly, the defendant’s lawyer didn’t show up,” the lawyer said.
However, Agradaa has publicly denied any wrongdoing and instead blamed Empress Gifty’s lawyer for not following proper legal procedures. Speaking on social media, Agradaa claimed the opposing lawyer failed to serve her legal team with important court documents within the required time.
“That so-called lawyer was supposed to serve my lawyer at least seven days before the court date, but he didn’t,” Agradaa explained. “When I got to court and the judge asked about my lawyer, I said she was on her way. The judge then questioned Gifty’s lawyer about when the documents were served.”
According to Agradaa, Gifty’s lawyer admitted that the documents were only handed over to the court bailiff the day before, which is a violation of the rules for legal notice.
She added, “Everyone knows that giving legal documents on short notice is wrong. You didn’t serve us on time, but you go on TV and act like it’s our fault.”
This case stems from a long-standing public feud between the two women. Nana Agradaa has repeatedly made harsh statements about Empress Gifty, often involving her husband. In response, Gifty filed a GH¢20 million defamation lawsuit, moving the issue from social media drama into the courtroom.
The case continues to gain public attention, with many closely watching how the legal battle unfolds.
