Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Big Akwes has publicly apologized to singer Cina Soul after making deeply troubling comments during a TV segment that she described as “threatening.”
The controversy began when a video surfaced online showing Big Akwes participating in a “Kiss, Marry, Kill” game during an interview on Bryt TV. When asked to choose between actress Vivian Jill and Cina Soul, Akwes said he would marry Vivian—then went on to describe, in graphic detail, how he would “kill” Cina Soul using a magic mirror, a knife, and by drinking her blood.
The comments sparked outrage across social media, with many calling out both Big Akwes and Bryt TV for allowing such disturbing content to air. Cina Soul, visibly shaken by the remarks, took to Twitter (now X) on July 1, 2025, to express that she felt genuinely threatened, tagging the Ghana Police Service and other authorities to take appropriate action.
As the backlash intensified, Bryt TV brought Big Akwes back on air to address the matter. The actor clarified that his statements were intended purely for entertainment and not meant to be taken literally.
“This was meant purely for entertainment purposes; I never intended to actually harm her. I even heard her mother was scared by what I said, and for that, I’m truly sorry. Mummy, please don’t let this weigh on your heart,” Akwes said.
“If my words made anyone believe I would hurt Cina Soul, that was never my intention. I sincerely apologize to Cina Soul, her family, and anyone who felt disturbed.”
In addition to his personal apology, Bryt TV issued an official statement acknowledging the public outrage and expressing regret over the segment.
“We extend our sincere apology to singer Cina Soul and our cherished audience for any unintended offense caused during the ‘Kiss, Marry, Kill’ segment. We remain committed to upholding respect and responsibility in our content,” the platform said.
Many Ghanaians have since called for more responsible entertainment practices on media platforms, especially when involving public figures whose words carry weight.
