Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has started disbursing funds under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme to vulnerable families across Ghana.

This round of payments will reach over 340,000 households in all 16 regions. Each household will receive GH¢64 to GH¢106, depending on the number of eligible members.

LEAP supports the elderly, persons with disabilities, and extremely poor families—especially those caring for orphans and vulnerable children.

At a launch event in the Ashanti Region, Deputy Minister Francisca Oteng-Mensah said the program shows government’s commitment to protecting the most vulnerable.

“This is an investment in dignity and national development,” she said.

Since its launch in 2008, LEAP has helped reduce poverty and improve access to healthcare and education for thousands of families. Beneficiaries also receive free NHIS enrollment and other social support.

The Ministry says monitoring teams are in place to ensure fair and timely payments.
