Award-winning Ghanaian filmmaker Shirley Frimpong-Manso has slammed local television stations for showing unauthorised films, calling the act both criminal and deeply disrespectful to the creative industry.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio as monitored by yocharley.com, she expressed her frustration, saying, “I want to kill all of them,” referring to media outlets that air pirated content. She emphasized that piracy undermines the intense effort, time, and resources filmmakers invest in their work.

“Making a movie is excruciating—financially, emotionally, and logistically,” she explained, detailing the costs of feeding large crews and managing daily production needs. Frimpong-Manso noted the pain of seeing stolen content broadcast without consent.

She also criticised the lack of enforcement despite clear evidence of piracy, questioning why known offenders remain unpunished. “It’s a criminal offence. There’s evidence. I don’t understand why we’re babysitting this kind of thing.”

Her passionate remarks have reignited calls for stricter enforcement of copyright laws and more protection for Ghana’s creative community.
